THE LAB EXAMS (300 pts) Four (4) Lab Exams of 100 points each with the lowest score being dropped. Download the
INS1 LAB Exams Extra Credit Log to be completed for extra credit work in association with the lab exercises to be completed prior to each of the Lab Exams. For each one of the Discovery Labs listed, complete the Lab Template which can be downloaded in rtf format by clicking here. For ALL exams be familiar with Basic Science Mathematics. For a practice worksheet with answers click on the link.
A
Lab Exam 1: Scientific Method, Newtonian Physics: This exam tests your mathematical abilities in Newtonian Physics which includes knowledge gained from the Discovery Lab - GRAVITATIONAL ACCELERATION and  Discovery Lab - KINETIC ENERGY downloadable as pdf files by clicking on the links. You should also be able to understand simple concepts such as velocity, acceleration & gravitational acceleration, force, weight, power, work, inertia, kinetic energy, unit conversions, and percent error calculations. Click on the links above for practice worksheets with answers in pdf format.
B
Lab Exam 2: Scientific Method, Matter & Energy: This test has to do with the Discovery Lab - DENSITY OF OBJECTS and Discovery Lab - SPEED OF SOUND, downloadable as pdf files from the links provided. You also need to know something about energy (this includes kinetic energy), waves, refraction & reflection and associated calculations. Click on the links for practice sheets.
C
Lab Exam 3: Scientific Method, Atoms & Periodic Table: Be familiar with the scientific principles in Discovery Lab - CHEMICAL-ELECTRICAL REACTIONS and Discovery Lab - CONSERVATION OF MASS which can be downloaded in pdf format by clicking on the links. For this Exam you must also be thoroughly familiar with the Periodic Table and you will be tested on your ability to extract information from a provided Periodic Table, such as element names & symbols, valences, oxidation numbers, electron configurations, number of neutrons, protons and electrons, etc. You must also confident with naming chemical compounds, writing chemical formulas, percent ionic versus covalent characteristics in bonding as can be practiced in the Chemical Bonding Worksheet.
D
Lab Exam 4: Scientific Method, Chemical Reactions: For this exam you need to complete Discovery Lab - NEUTRALIZING ACIDS and Discovery Lab - GAS PRODUCING REACTIONS As well as being familiar with moles and mole fractions, basic chemical reactions and balancing chemical equations. For worksheets click on the provided links.
